The meaning of "Prejudice" in Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary.
"Pronunciation: \ˈpre-jə-dəs\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Latin praejudicium previous judgment, damage, from prae- + judicium judgment
Date: 13th century
2 a (1) :preconceived judgment or opinion (2) : an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge b : an instance of such judgment or opinion c : an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics"
The first time I encountered the word was, with great enthusiasm, in the Jane Austen classic.
And it is a word I don't like associated with my general outlook on life. Purely because it categories my beliefs and interests, and stunts my already-challenged growth. Ian Smith is prejudiced, Theodore G. Bilbo is prejudiced. Not me. Calling me that automatically makes me narrow minded, short-sighted, ignorant, hypocritical, cynical and someone with an illiberal world view.
So I don't enjoy science fiction. Or action flicks. Or Bollywood comedies. Or game zones in shopping malls. Or tomatoes.
These aren't my predujices. These are my conscious choices. I understand how some people love all of the above, and will fight till they die on how it all makes perfect sense in their world.
I'm happy for them. More than happy. Not too many things in the world entertain, or make sense, anyway.
That doesn't mean the same things have to hold my attention span for that much time.
I'm not condescending by nature. Hardly even sarcastic.
And I am not too 'busy' with my prejudices to understand the brilliance of science fiction.
So, dont say that next time.

uhh..ok...angry on someone??? its ok not to like sci-fi/action flicks/bolly-comedies..(i like them all)..there is always stuff that everyone does not like..in spite of everyone liking it..and surely its not prejudice... for ex. i hate ManU/Chelsea... ok.. thats something else...but
we 'totally completely unbiased' folks can forgive the sci-fi the action flicks and even the tomatoes.. but if u say u don't like Andaz Apna Apna ( the king of Bollywood comedies ) I'm sorry - we'll have to send our goons out to 'deal with prejudiced punks' like you.. :D
What the ****! The other four-letter word, that you intended the readers to think in your newer post! Going through your profile I'd noticed that you were a capricornian, but the real WTF is my b'day too happens to be 6th January!
Sorry for commenting on such a frivolous subject when what you've written some rather 'more' serious issues to ponder over, but right now this is what excites me the most! :)
I could make out, reading is your passion (duh!), and am myself not a very well read person. The only things on your favorites list that I have read are the two Ayn Rand novels.
Just a small reminder (assuming you might be unaware of it). Whatever individual items you post in your Blogger profile, act as one keyword and are to be separated by comma/full stop (period). So if you simply post U2, this (click) is what you get. It allows other bloggers to search each other through common interests/favorites. But, if you post "My all time favourite band is U2. Their lyrics actually do make sense most of the time.", this (click) is what you get instead! Of course, that also sort of makes you unique. :)
Why I mention this is because, I'd found many wonderful blogs - directly or indirectly searching for Ayn Rand, her novels and for atheism.
Seeing the sort of pattern in what you like for reading I can't make too many suggestions (as I've not read much), but you might try 'Acts of Faith' by Erich Segal. It's not very insightful, but one of those stories that had got me saturated emotionally.
Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog!
Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Okay, so who created God?
